VISION, MISSION, VALUES

  Vision

Materialization of rights to development of indigenous communities in South East Sulawesi of Indonesia.

  Mission

The following are the mission of IDRAP as stated in its Article of Incorporation:

building the capacity of rural and indigenous people;

improving the health status of rural and indigenous people;

improving the economic condition of rural and indigenous people; and

preserving living environment based on indigenous practices and wisdom.

  Values

In carrying out its work, IDRAP holds the following values:

We work on the basis of empowerment of people in order to bring them out of dependence;

We are committed to improving the lives of the indigenous communities in rural area, but it does not mean excluding non-indigenous people of such communities;
We serve communities through integrated projects rather than separated project;

We encourage multi-cultural understanding and harmony between indigenous people and non-indigenous people in the community;

We perform our work with political neutrality and independence; and

We operate transparently and are accountable.

  Programs

In order to support achievement of its mission, IDRAP develop indigenous communities in South East Sulawesi through:

 Training programs
The trainings provided are intended to build the capacity of indigenous people who are mostly uneducated. These programs are not only targeted to them who are in rural area but also their 'future leaders' indigenous students who are studying in the city. This is essential in order to make them to be not only as the object but also as the subject of development.

 Water system and sanitation
Facilitating indigenous communities in rural area in construction of water system and sanitation facilities in order to improve their health quality as well as to cut down their dependence on rainwater during rainy season. The system is equipped with water meter, therefore, a social subsidy/help by families with better income to the poor families can be applied.

 Community-based reforestation
Promoting community-based reforestation through development of family-based forests in their own land. In the future, this artificial forests can become the logging field for local people. Therefore, illegal logging within the natural forests or protected forests can be reduced. Moreover, this also will be a source of income for them.

 Income generation support
Supporting income generating activities by provision of micro-credit assistance to villagers. This program is not only for giving them access to working capital but also for bringing them out from loan shark trap. There are two kind of micro-credit programs: group-based credit for indigenous women and individual credit for the former illegal loggers.
